Dear Father, You were delighted to create Eric Schmidt and to bring him into this world in April 1955. You gave him many gifts and talents. He became a software engineer, the CEO of Google, and the Executive Chairman of Alphabet, the parent company of Google. Forbes ranks Schmidt as the world’s 119th richest person with an estimated net worth of $ 11.1 billion. He has served on various boards in academia and industry. He was recruited for roles in the Obama Administration and invested in Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. He has been active in efforts to save natural resources. It was reported this week that he has resigned from his position at Alphabet to spend more time in research and development and in philanthropy. However, there are also reports that his resignation may be related to issues in his personal life. He is reported to have been separated from his wife since 2011-2012. Father, even billionaires need You. They have weaknesses, limitations, insecurities, anxieties, and uncertainties. Despite their vast wealth, they do not have unlimited resources. They are not gods. They do not have all wisdom, knowledge, or power. It short, billionaires like Eric Schmidt are human just like the most impoverished people in our cities. Therefore, I ask for Your mercy on him today. Lead him to a personal relationship with You. Provide for him. Protect him. Lead him to a place where he thanks You for Your faithfulness and goodness. Transform his heart and mind. May he use his influence to encourage others to place their faith in You. Father, protect him from false allegations. Where he needs to change his behavior, help him to do so. I ask for You to do a miracle in his relationship with his former wife, Wendy. Amen.
Dear Father, Sylvester Stallone is one of Hollywood’s most famous actors. He was made famous by his performance in the five Rocky films as well as his performance in the Rambo movies. His 50+ movie performances also include roles in The Lords of Flatbush, Cliffhanger, Assassins, and The Expendables series. He has achieved this success despite injuries to his face that occurred when he was delivered at his birth. He has suffered significant injuries performing his own stunts in action movies. He has been married three times and has fathered five children, two sons and three daughters. His oldest son died of heart disease in 2012. Sylvester is reported to have returned in recent years to the Catholic faith of his childhood, though he has subsequently been reported to have claimed only to be a spiritual man, distancing himself from organized religion. Despite his outspoken support for the Republican Party, he is reported to be an advocate for gun-control. News broke in late 2017 that a police report was filed in 1986, accusing Sylvester of sexually abusing a woman in a hotel that year. Father, this is another human coping with their weaknesses, limitations, insecurities, anxieties, and uncertainties. I ask that You have mercy on him. Reveal to him Your deep love for him. Transform his heart and mind. Give him the everlasting peace and joy that comes from genuine and authentic faith in You. Many his remaining years be years of spiritual growth, testimony, and compassion for others in need. As far as allegations of sexual misconduct, lead him to remorse, confession, and repentance where appropriate. Prove his innocence if he is being falsely charged. Regardless, turn this man into a man of God. Amen.
Dear Father, Jill Stein was the Green Party’s nominee for President of the United States in 2016. Raised in a Reformed Jewish home, it is reported that she now considers herself to be an agnostic. She practiced internal medicine for 25 years. She identified a connection between people’s poor health and the environment in which they live. That led her to beome an author and to move into politics. She has lost political campaigns for Massachusetts governor (twice), Massachusetts House of Representatives, and the Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth. She became the Green Party candidate for President of the United States in 2012. She has been arrested several times because of her participation in protests associated with her campaigns. She put her name behind an effort to force a recount in key states after Donald Trump’s victory in November 2016. However, court decisions and recounts that confirmed Trump’s victory put an end to that effort. It has been reported in December 2017 that her 2016 Presidential campaign is now under investigation for possible collusion with the Russians. Her political policies include giving students free higher public education, advocating for third-party candidates, advancing renewable energy, and isolationist foreign policies. She is married to Richard Rohrer and they have two sons. Father, lead Jill into a personal relationship with you. May she encounter the compassion and mercy of the true living God. May she have no doubt about your existence. Father, she wants to change the world. May her political influence soon inspire other people to explore their relationship with You. May she make the difference she longs to make by setting an example of faith that other activists will admire and respect. Meet her needs, whatever they may be today. Provide for her. Protect her. Give her reasons in 2018 to thank You for Your blessings in her life. Amen.
Dear Father, Darryl Strawberry was a successful major league baseball player between 1983 and 1999. He won the World Series four times, he participated in the all-star game eight times, and he is a member of the New York Mets Hall of Fame. He was also a victim of childhood abuse. That abuse led him into drug and alcohol addiction and several encounters with police. However, he has turned his life around. He recovered from his addictions and formed The Darryl Strawberry Foundation to help children with autism. He has also formed Strawberry Ministries to help those who struggle with drug and alcohol addiction. His third wife Tracy is a partner with him in ministry and is an author and a host of a national television show. Father, I ask for Your blessings on their marriage. Make it more-and-more Christ-centered. May their love for You grow and may that love for You and each other continue to bless their ministries. Give them focused on You. Give them strength to overcome temptation and human weakness. May their ministries touch many lives, leading many to experience freedom and transformation through Jesus Christ. Amen.
