An excerpt from Take Every Thought to Prayer – Volume 1 – Prayers to Love God

Dear Father, I give up. I’m done. Finished. I’m out of here. I’ve tried to be the best I can be for others and for You. It doesn’t work. I keep making mistakes. I keep experiencing disappointment. Nothing ever works out. So, I quit. Father, there may be several reasons why I’m feeling like giving up: – You are not supporting what I’m working on. It conflicts with Your will for me. I’m doing this on my own and You have purposely kept Your power out of my efforts. Father, forgive me for my rebellion. – I’m trying to do the right things but by my own strength. Do I begin with prayer, asking You to empower me during the day? Do I ask You for energy? Do I ask You to give me insight and wisdom? Do I ask You for strength and resilience? Do I ask You for focus? Do I ask You for information? Do I ask You for direction? Do I ask You for people to cooperate with me? Do I ask for You to do miraculous things? Father, if the answer to these questions are “no”, I’m trying to accomplish everything by my strength. Of course, things aren’t going to work out. Father, I need to make You central to all that I do. Help me to do so from this point forward. – Do I take time to rest? Do I get enough sleep? Do I eat right? Do I take time to relax? Do I get up and go for a walk in the woods to clear my head? Do I take an hour to help someone else in need? I don’t have unlimited energy. I can’t fire on all cylinders 24×7 and not expect to feel worn out. Father, forgive me for not giving my body and mind a break. I am not God. Father, renew my strength and help me get back on the horse and continue the fight to do what’s right for Your Kingdom. Amen.
