An excerpt from Take Every Thought to Prayer – Volume 2 – Prayers to Love Our Neighbor

Dear Father, though trouble can do good in our lives, we pray for the hardship of our loved ones to be immediately removed. However, You allow misfortune to come into our lives for reasons that make us better people. The suffering needs to run its course, completing the character transformation it was intended to achieve. After the lessons are learned, the need for the adversity may go and You bring healing and relief. We pray that those who suffer learn their lessons quickly so they can enjoy healing. Learning a lesson does not necessarily mean the person is being disciplined for bad attitudes. Their hardship may be a required course in the school of life, preparing them for ministry much like a doctor goes to medical school. Father, may all my friends and loved ones who are suffering tonight learn the lessons quickly that You are teaching in their tough times. Give me wisdom and insight to help them figure out what You might be trying to communicate to them. May I not be like Job’s friends, certain of Your intentions. May I compassionately help them ask the questions they need answered as they seek Your voice in their private prayer time. Help me to learn the lessons You are trying to teach me in my own adversity so that I can focus my energy on ministering to others. Amen.
