Shooting in Corning, CA

Dear Father, sigh. Another shooting. Four are dead and ten more, including two children, are hospitalized. Kevin Janson Neal shot his neighbors, random people he passed on the street, and then put 100 rounds into an elementary school before he was killed by police. Father, thank You that the school administrators were able to prevent the shooter from entry into the school. Thank you! I ask for Your mercy and grace on those who are hospitalized. Help them to physically heal from their wounds. Comfort the families who lost a loved one or whose loved one is in the hospital. Walk with them through their grief and pain. I ask You to help all who were traumatized by the shooting in Corning, CA to recover emotionally. May the experience lead each victim and survivor to a deeper relationship with You. May they surrender their lives to You. May their lives become testimonies of Your compassion, grace, and deliverance. Father, America continues to experience mass shootings. Experts and commentators talk eloquently of the need to pass and enforce gun laws. They speak of constructing a more effective mental health system that intervenes in shooter’s lives before they hurt anyone. However, the truth is that America needs to turn back to You. People are violent because their hearts are rebellious from You. Your commands are simple – love You with all of our heart, soul, and mind and love our neighbors. If we obey Your commands, no one would ever be shot. Father, I ask You again for a spiritual revival to sweep this nation. Amen.

Dear Father, the military in Zimbabwe has detained dictator Robert Mugabe in what has been called a “bloodless correction” of power. His wife Grace has fled to Nambia. The military has stated they took this action to address the criminal activities of the Mugabe administration. Mugabe, who has been in power since 1987, has been a socialist leader in the African liberation movement. He was a key player in the transformation of the country of Rhodesia into the nation of Zimbabwe. His 30 year rule has been marred by mismanagement, corruption, discrimination, and human rights abuses. It is estimated that anywhere from 3-6 million people have died as a direct result of the actions of his government. Many whites have left the country. Father, may the events that are taking place lead to the strengthening of Your church. Strengthen their faith. Give them courage. Give them wisdom and understanding. Give Your church in Zimbabwe the resources it needs. May this political development enable Your church to be a powerful agent of change in the lives of indviduals, families, and communities. Father, put someone into office whose heart embraces Your ways and Your commands. May this event lead to spiritual revival and renewal in the country. Father, may this event also lead to the spiritual salvation of both Robert and Grace Mugabe. Amen.

Al Franken

Dear Father, I ask for Your blessings this day on US Senator Al Franken, his wife Franni, his daughter Thomasin, and his son Joseph. Father, all four of these people were created by You with love. They are precious to You. I ask that You will draw each of them into a personal relationship with You. Give each of them a longing for You and guide them to You. Transform their hearts and minds. Give to each of them an inner peace and contentment through faith that they would describe as amazing. Meet each of their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Protect and provide for them. Give Al the desire to seek wisdom and insight from You. Have him inquire of the Lord. May he make the right decisions for his constituents and for the people of the US. Father, bless his fight to end homelessness. May his efforts lead to the rescue of many lives. Amen.

Update – November 16, 2017 – Dear Father, reports have been released today of sexual misconduct by Al Franken.  There is photographic evidence. Father, I ask for justice for all women who have been abused by sexual predators.  I ask that this wave of reports of the abusive behavior by politicians and celebrities will lead our society to re-examine the need for morality and godly character.  As for Mr. Franken, I believe the words in my prayer above do not need to be changed. In fact, the breaking news about Mr. Franken may in fact be evidence You will be answering that prayer. Amen.

First Amendment

Dear Father, on December 15, 1791, the First Amendment was adopted by the states and it became law in the United States. It states:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Father, I thank You for this amendment. It allows Your church to assemble and worship without fear of government oppression. It allows Your church to freely express the words that You have given Your people to say. It allows Your church to approach the government and be heard when our freedoms are in question. I thank You that this amendment enables Your people to join together to inspire others with words of encouragement and by acts of compassion. Father, please protect the First Amendment rights of each citizen in America. May Your people never be silenced in America. However, may Your church never take such freedoms for granted. May we exercise our First Amendment freedoms by sharing our testimonies and by caring for our neighbors in crisis. Amen.
